My plan for the inauguration of this new sight was to talk about the motivation behind the paintings in Walking Through. The artwork was not created for the book, but included because I thought it would be encouraging for the reader to see I didn't "just grieve". So, as I was pondering this painting in light of this post, I was vacuuming my stairway. It was most challenging because of the attachments for my vacuum. As I was struggling with the process I started to think about how nice heaven will be because there will be no more decay...NO MORE DUST! When I tried to get back to my thoughts on the inspiration for this piece, I was delighted to realize they connected. The original inspiration came from worship. I had my eyes closed as we sang to the Lord, and my heart "saw" Jesus and I dancing. This happened more than once. It was such a special time, I wanted to try to capture the feeling with a painting. I sketched the concept and set up the easel and canvas. As I painted, I listened to Dennis Jernigan's worship CD's. They took me right back to the emotions....but the painting...it just didn't want to come together until the young girl became a bride. Really, this piece changed so many times before it was completed that my husband teased I would soon need shorter brushes because the paint would be so thick. Once the bride took shape and the concept of the heavenlies became part of my vision for the piece, it became all about worship and eternity with the Lord. The piece is done in layers, just like our Christian character. In the end, it speaks to me of how passionately Christ loves his people. I long for the time we will be together for eternity. In heaven there will be no more crying, no more tears and no more dust. The no dust thing is of course minor, but well, that's how my mind works. Hope you have a blessed day! I love the way God works. I’ve been a little remiss in doing marketing for this book. So, this summer I called Lynda Savage from the Center for Family Healing in Menasha, WI to see if she would be interested in having the book available for her clients. Now Lynda wrote a recommendation for the book after reading the draft but had not read the finished work. She was delighted to help. Then a few weeks later she called me saying she had reread it and said, “I love this book.” Since then she’s recommended the book at her speaking engagements. Lynda was the founder of the Center and she has a radio program called Practical Family Living. Her idea after rereading the book was for she and I to do some radio programs and follow them up with a grief support group at the Center. Perfect. Here’s the information:
The radio shows will air Oct. 7 -11 on WEMI 101.7 Fond du Lac, 91.9 Fox Cities , WEMY 91.5 Green Bay, and 95.5 Two Rivers The grief support groups will be at the Center for Family Healing, 1476 Kenwood Drive, Menasha, WI Group runs for 6 weeks from Oct. 29 – Dec. 3 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM We will be using the book Walking Through hope for the grieving heart. Price is $20. There will be a suggested donation for the group of $5 per week. Facilitators will be Lynda Savage MS, LMFT, LPC, and Wayne and Peg Muenzel Register at the Center 920-720-8873 Please spread the word to those you know who would benefit. Remember, though our grief was the loss of a son, the book “provides a way for us all to heal.” Sometimes we just need to make one little call… Hi everyone! When we set up this website, it was intended to help promote the book Walking Through hope for the grieving heart, as well as my art work. I’ve been so pleased with the feedback from the book. It certainly is doing what it was intended to do…help people with the grieving process.
I am so happy the book is complete! Now I have time to paint! Hooray. I took a few painting classes last year and the year before to refresh my skills and have been doing a lot of painting since then. As soon as I figure out this new camera and get some help with how to post things, this website will be a great place to display my work. Meanwhile, for those of you who are local, I’ll be at the Appleton Farmer’s Market (Appleton, Wi) at the Trout Museum this Sat. morning. (Aug 10, 2013) I’ll have a few of my recent oil paintings there as well as my book. The best part is, we’ll be doing a fun vegetable art project, come on down and have some fun. Hope to see you there and stop by the website again soon… When I think of all the people who are struggling through the loss of a loved one, a marriage or their home, I’m reminded of a quote by Lt. Shane Osborne about his POW experience: “Prayer, in the end, was the greatest survival skill i knew.” I found it to be true as I prayed and as others prayed for me. Please continue to pray for the families of Sandy Hook and for those recovering from Hurricane Sandy. God’s grace because of your prayers is an incredible power for peace and comfort
